It seems the only purpose of the passive regen is to extend the interval between active regens as long as possible. Now with all of that said, I have yet to find a reason to perform a stationary regen. A stationary or "forced" regen I can performed while the vehicle is parked and using a monitor (like the iDash or CTS3). The user starts a regen.
